Start Tennessee research with the year, not the modern county
Tennessee families often “disappear” when researchers search only the modern county name. Formations, the Southwest Territory era, and the State of Franklin experiment re-label the same farms without a move.
Method: (1) fix the event year, (2) open the correct parent or territorial series, (3) then use the modern county hub for later decades. See the formation guide and timeline.
Burned counties need neighbors, churches, newspapers, and Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA) substitutes from day one.
